Ragman is Rory Regan, a Viet Nam veteran who runs a pawn shop by day, but becomes a crimefighter by night. In the original telling of his origin, Rory’s father discovered two million dollars in cash. As one might expect, the loot was the result of mob activity—and the criminals wanted it back. Rory’s father and elderly friends were tortured by live electrical wires. The electricity surged leaving everyone dead except for Rory. Rory then decided to strike back at the mobsters, wearing a suit of rags his father had thrown together as a costume.
